Thor 604 Out

And due to an American holiday, it means that it hits in the UK and the US at the same time. Hurrah for international comics-congress.

Thor 604 is the start of my six issue run on Thor. I pick up about two minutes from the end of JMS’ finale in a three issue arc I called Latverian Promethean. And it was terribly tempting to try and call it Heimdalsgate Like A Promethean Curse. But I’d have my liver torn from my body like old Promeo-chap, and rightly so. The first issue is… well, it’s the Why And How And Whom, and moving everyone who I want to be punching one another into the vicinity. I have a lot of fun with it. Billy Tan is best known for his action, but on less combat-related issue, he does fantastic work - and we’ll get to a whole lot of what he does with Violence next time. And Christina Strain once again proves herself one of the most talented colourists working in comics, frankly. This is the third time I’ve worked with her - she did my Dazzler 8 pager, plus added mental psychedelics to David Lafuente’s Phonogram B-side - and they’ve all been a delight. And totally different in style too.

You can read the first five pages here , and there’s a couple of reviews out. Firstly, a really positive one over at Newsarama. Secondly, a middling one over at CBR.

Oh - and 605 is out the week before Christmas (Along with ARES 3), so people won’t have long to wait for the full on traditional superhero fisticuffs.

Assorted other coverage stuff? Well, I did an pretty lengthy interview about Phonogram over at Stuck Records. Bobsy Mindless One reviewed Phonogram 2.5 (And SWORD). He’s always the last person to review an issue, but he’s always worth waiting for. And - whisper it - issue 6 actually comes out next week. I’m going to be at ATP this weekend, but keep an eye on Jamie’s twitter, as he’ll be sticking up the preview.

Ares came out last week. As usual, less reviews for the second issue of a mini than the first, but here’s a couple of fun ones - House to Astonish and Factual Opinion. Oh - and it’s talked about in Awesomed By Comics, which is a lot of fun. And… oh, there were more, but I’ve misplaced the links. Can’t search now. In rush! Have SWORD 5 to write and/or indie nonsense to listen to. See you on the other side.

This post was mentioned on Twitter by KieronGillen: Today is Thor comickybook enpurchasement day. I blog about it: http://tinyurl.com/yhmvxsp…

I hope, for Christina’s sake, this issue wasn’t also set on a plane?

I actually didn’t realize she was doing colors here, that’s fantastic.

Shane: It wasn’t. She probably was confused and thought I was a different Kieron Gillen.

Warning this very geekish. That being said, please dont forget Balder has powers too. Loved your first issue.

That panoramic cover is a thing of beauty! The insides weren’t too bad either :-)

My friend and I got into a heated arguement about Thor #604 yesterday. He thinks Kelda’s death was “Disrespectful to character we’d spent months getting attached to”, and that she was killed by a “Poke of Doom”. Tell me, please, was Kelda’s death planned before you got on the book, and were you given any intsructions regarding whether or not we should see her killer?

Sorry about the double post!

No worries. Blog software is odd.

Regarding the question, next issue is out before Christmas. Rather than commenting on elements of the story, I’d rather people actually read the story.

(Or, at least, have the story told to them by people who have read it, if they feel they don’t want to continue it.)

Doing editors notes along the way detracts from the story, I think.
