Dark Avengers: Ares 2 Out

Ta-dah! No reviews yet, but there’s a five page preview for you to digest. In short - Ares takes his team off on their first mission. Hi-jinks and adventures ensue!

It’s not the full total of comics pages appearing this week. The final issue of JMS’ Thor run comes out - THOR: GIANT SIZE FINALE. It’s apparently got a six page preview of the first issue of my run in it, which hits next week. 604 apparently has an enormous gatefold sleeve, which looks pretty damn nifty actually.

Oh - as a break from the war and chaos, I direct you at a friends of mine’s parents Sri Lankan humanitarian work, which could do with your support. Go nose.

Another good issue.

[…] First Tweet: 52 minutes ago kierongillen Kieron Gillen I'm suddenly reminded i haven't tweeted that Ares 2 is out. It totally is retweet […]

When I arrived at the comic shop, there was naught but one copy left.

It wasn’t on the shelf. It was in the hands of a twelve year old.

I remember when I was twelve. That was when pure chance delivered ELECTRA:SAGA and DARK KNIGHT to me, and my comics habits (and EVERYTHING) changed forever.
If I hadn’t stumbled onto those, I don’t really know who I’d be now.

I sold the kid on RED HULK instead, took my ARES #2, and doomed the poor wee bastard.

Haven’t read it yet but just had a peep at the first few pages and laughed heartily at the image of Ares riding a missile… good work, sir.

Enjoyed the issue, but one mildly sarcky point:

Ares doesn’t like the Spartans, in large part because their kings claimed descent from Hercules? Okay.

Why, in that case, was he perfectly willing to fight for the city-state named after, and whose patron was, Athena?

The statue was the bigger annoyance, for one. Hercules is the secondary annoyance.

Second key note: *That day*.
