Phonogram 2.5 Delayed A Week
Crikey! How frustrating. As reported on the electric internet that the new issue issue of Phonogram is going to have its entire run pulped. Why? Because due to mysterious powers beyond our ken, the bar-code was messed up on it. What makes it more frustrating is that a whole load of comic shops don’t even use the bar-codes. Man!
On the bright side, it should be in the shops next week. Sorry about the delay. It’s enormously annoying for everyone - especially after the six-week delay after handing the book to Image due to a Production Bottleneck, without even getting onto the perennial dragging of the series - but we’re really close now. PG2.6 should hopefully lob off to Image later in the day, so… well, let’s not jinx it, eh?
However, the PR efforts strike! There’s been a few reviews. Here’s Comic Book Resources and here’s Comics Daily’s. Oh, and for those who want to tease themselves, there’s a five-page preview which you can see here. Though there’s spoilers right from the off, and I’d wait.
But I am ludicrously precious over Phonogram. Like, no shit, yeah?
However, the previously arranged launch party will still happen, not least because S.W.O.R.D. 1 is out, which Jamie also has a story in. It’s at the Prince Arthur near Euston in London from - ooh - 7:30 or so. Facebook details here. Come join us! We’re very friendly.
Oh - I mentioned issue 6. Well, since we’ve never shown it, here’s the cover. Ta-dah!

You know, the fact that the punks at our Overlords get a preview copy and I don’t makes me cry. I mean it, tears are streaming down my cheeks right now. I don’t know what I’m going to do. I can’t take my revenge by giving it a bad review, because, you know, I’m sure it’s going to be frickin’ awesome. And I can’t give you the cold shoulder at San Diego next year because by then, you’ll be such a bigwig from the runaway success of SWORD that you won’t want to talk to me anyway. Confound you, Gillen!!!!!
What’s a poor shmuck like me to do????

I succumbed to temptation and looked at the preview. My girlfriend is going to be pissed when she steals my copy and sees Penny misusing the word “epic”.
God, that cover looks like the poster for every gig I went to in 1994…

Got my copy of 2.5! Local indie comic owners would much rather make a sale than throw out merchandise. Or they just ignore messages from Diamond.
This may be my favorite issue yet. Laura’s character probably the closest thing to how I was in high school. Or last week. Damnit, writer! Jamie’s art was top-notch too, Laura’s yearning was really beautiful in choice moments.
Though everything I read these days has cream-rising imagery. Who puts cream in milk?
Will read SWORD in a bit. Great day for comics, really — have Morrison’s Batman to get through as well.

The band that logos talks about forming at the end of the issue already exist.. they are called The Raveonettes

The Camera Obscura reference makes me very happy.

As always, a new Phonogram is a fresh (and not unwelcome) challenge to me to pretend I know anything at all about pop music.
Sigh. Come on Gillen, when’s the series going to get to the good stuff, with trenchcoat-wearing Bach decapitating Vampire Mozart with a sharpened silver music stand? It’s what Phonogram’s always REALLY been about, anyway.
